WRD earmarks `25 cr works in Calangute

Repair works of major bundhs, nullahs taken up in Candolim as well, says Paliencar

Stating that works of around Rs 25 crore are in the pipeline in Calangute, Water Resources Minister Vinoda Paliencar said many works of repairing major bundhs and nullahs have been taken up by the government in the State.  

“We have taken up work to improve a major bundh costing around Rs 3.18 crore and a nullah at Rs 57 lakh in Candolim. Works of another Rs 25 crore will also be taken up in Calangute constituency,” Paliencar said.  

The water resources minister was speaking after laying the foundation stone for both the projects at Candolim panchayat office in the presence of local MLA, Michael Lobo.  

Candolim Sarpanch Blaize Fernandes, panchayat members and WRD officials were also present.  

Continuing, Paliencar said the Calangute MLA has been very proactive in his constituency and proposed a lot of works to bring about development in the area.  

He said the local MLA has been working hard to bring about change in the coastal constituency and took up several works in Calangute.  

“Calangute deserves new projects and development as the place is popular world over. We will work to bring more projects in this coastal village,” he said.   

Paliencar said that he was able to take up a lot of works through his department with the help and blessings of former CM Manohar Parrikar and would continue to serve the people of Goa.  

“The water resources department will walk the extra mile in fulfilling the aspirations of the people and take up works to bring about overall progress in the State,” he said.  

WRD will take up improvement of existing bundh from Candolim Bridge to Sinquerim at a cost of Rs 3.18 crore.  

The scope of the work was to repair the bundh of around 1500 metres in length which has been lying in dilapidated condition. The bundh has been breached at many places and the sluice gate has also been damaged.  

WRD has also taken up work to improve existing nullah from Café Coffee Day up to Arradi, Candolim at a cost of Rs 57 lakh.
